D56 Viking Marching Band
Get excited for a great summer! Continuing in the great tradition of D56 bands we will be performing for the Gurnee Days Parade. In order to have a great sound, it is mandatory that all band members attend rehearsals unless you are out of town. Please let your director know about any planned absences. For all rehearsals and parades you must wear tennis shoes (no flip flops), and for the parade you will wear jeans and the band polo ($30). A new polo can be purchased during Gurnee Days rehearsals. This will be the uniform for all parades and concerts and can be used all years and passed down to younger siblings!

Park Clean Up 8:00-9:00am
All band members and their families are encouraged to participate in this community service activity. It’s easy work and you get to socialize while doing it. We will be cleaning the park from the firework show the night before. Bring a rake or any trash picking up devices you want. We will provide gloves and trash bags. This is voluntary but we need a lot of help so please sign up in the band room if you are willing to lend a hand.
Between 9 and 11 you should go back home, relax and enjoy the morning.
When you come back at 11...
To bring with you:
Sunscreen
Sunglasses
Water bottle
Clothes pins
Bag lunch/Snack
Uniform:
Red polo shirt
Jeans or Jean shorts (depending on weather)
Tennis shoes
Parade call time 11:00am Viking Band room
All band members must meet at the Viking Band Room with their red band polo, nice shorts and tennis shoes. No flip-flops allowed. A school bus will be at the school to take the students to the start of the parade route at 11:05 right after the picture so don't be late! The parade will start at noon.
Concert Set Up 12:20pm
Immediately following D56 band's completion of the parade.
We need volunteers to help take equipment from the Viking Band room over to the band shell for the concert. If you are able and willing please stop by to lend a hand. Many hands makes for light work.
Lunch 12:30-1:00pm
Students will eat the lunch that they brought from home in the band room. Students should not plan on buying food at Gurnee Days. There is not enough time for that and we want the students inside cooling off during this time.
Concert in the Park 1:00pm (or whenever the parade finishes)
Our band plays a wonderful concert in the band shell by Viking School after the parade is done. The concert will be finished by 2:30pm. After we would love some help putting the equipment back in the band room.
